Supplina Hamilton appointed first County Commissioner of Umatilla County, Oregon in April 1863

This document is a copy of an article detailing the history of Umatilla County, Oregon. It was published in the 'Roving Reporter's Page' of the Walla Walla Union Bulletin on Sunday, August 4, 1946. The purpose of the column was to correct some misinformation over the history of the County in context of then current debates. The author writes of the creation of Umatilla County in September of 1862 and then the appointment of a judge and two county commissioners. One of those commissioners was 'Supplina Hamilton'. Supplina had fought in the 1855 Yakima Indian War and spent time in Eastern Oregon. Though living in Western Oregon in the 1860 and 1870 Census', he is placed here in Umatilla County in 1862 - 1864 as County Commissioner. By the 1880 Census Supplina and family were living in Walla Walla County having been living near Waitsburg for years.
