First page of PuPuMoxMox Report of Death by Capt. Davis Layton, June 1856

Perhaps the most historically interesting document found among Capt. Davis Layton's papers: his handwritten copy of a letter he sent to Adjutant W. H. Farrar on June 18, 1856, detailing his report of the death of Chief Peo Peo Mox Mox (Yellow Bird) on Dec 7, 1855. The death of the chief had become controversial, and the general had requested reports on the incident from all the officers with knowledge of the event.
