William McCord Hamilton was the son of John and Altha (Judd) Hamilton. He is 26 in 1860 and working as a farm laborer on the Weadon farm outside of Mason City, Illinois. His twin brother James is working on a farm nearby. They will both enlist in the army together in 1862.
